The extension of Line 11 was inaugurated on Thursday, June 13th, in the presence of Patrice Vergriete, French Minister of Transport; Valérie Pécresse, French President of the Île-de-France Region and Île-de-France Mobilités, the public transit authority in the Greater Paris region; and Jean Castex, Chairman and CEO of the RATP Group; among other local stakeholders. This doubling of the line allows residents of Eastern Paris to reach major hub Châtelet in 24 minutes, compared to 55 minutes previously, with 6 new stations spread across 5 municipalities. It is another step towards making the Île-de-France network the most modern transportation system in the world and providing quality public transport to Île-de-France residents.

The extension and modernization of Line 11, an East-Center axis of the Parisian network, complete the network of Seine-Saint-Denis (Eastern suburbs) and the transport offer where it was lacking. Carrying 110 000 commuters every day to the Center of Paris in the past, the extension will open up the service to an additional 80,000 people.
In addition to increased passenger capacity, this major technical feat which provides the cities and users a host of advantages has been met thanks to the expertise of RATP Group:

  • Reduced intervals between trains: from 125 seconds during peak hour to 105 thanks to 32 new MP14 trains.
  • Greater availability of staff on the ground to assist the passengers: 100 new station agents and 80 new metro drivers, bringing the total to 200 drivers.
  • Enhanced activity zones and facilities.
  • Enhanced accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility.
  • Enhanced comfort conditions, thanks to a 40% reduction in noise pollution.
  • This project perfectly illustrates RATP's multidisciplinary expertise in engineering as well as its capacity to manage major projects like this one, including coordination and oversight of all the constituent elements.
